Through their instagram account, the Lexington Counter Clocks (Atlantic League), the former Legends, signed their first acquisition of the 2023 season. Curaçao-born Juan Carlos Sulbaran will reinforce the team’s pitching staff.
After a disappointing World Baseball Classic tournament for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sulbaran is on his way to the United States from Taiwan. In the loss vs Taiwan, Sulbaran pitched two strong innings, in which he didn’t allow a run and recorded a K. He threw twenty pitches, of which fourteen for strikes.
During the 2022 season, Juan Carlos started seventeen games, as he recorded ten wins and three losses with a 2.67 ERA, allowing eighty hits and twenty-eight earned runs.
His most impressive season in the Dutch hoofdklasse was in 2021, when he recorded an ERA of only 1.61 in twelve starts for L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
In last winter’s gig in the Nicaraguan Winter League, he wasn’t that impressive as he posted an ERA of 8.18 in four starts as he did not earn a win but lost two games.
The signing with the Counter Clocks isn’t the first time he joins an independent team. In 2018, he played for the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association. In six starts, he posted a 1-2 record with a 5.97 ERA.
