Through the club’s Instagram account, it was announced that former player of Oosterhout Twins will join the Brasschaat Braves for the 2023 season. The departure of Axel Poesmans to that same Oosterhout Twins left a void that Martina will fill.
Catcher Axel Poesmans was acquired by Oosterhout Twins because Jason Halman called it a career and Jarreau Martina was released in favor of younger players. With Jarreau Martina joining Brasschaat, it looks almost like a trade.

Last season, Jarreau wasn’t very impressive at bat as he hit .196. In 2021, his numbers were much better as he batted .292. During his first few years with Oosterhout Twins, Jarreau was used as a catcher and as an outfielder. But with the arrival of Jason Halman, who platooned with Dave Jansen, he was moved to the outfield, where he was a solid left fielder.
Martina broke into the Dutch hoofdklasse in 2010, when he played for the now-defunct merger club Sparta-Feyenoord. The following season, he moved to ADO in The Hague. After an absence of three years, Jarreau returned to the hoofdklasse in 2015 when he joined HCAW from Bussum. But in 2016, he moved to Oosterhout Twins where he would stay with two sidesteps to Fortitudo Bologna in Italy and Curaçao Neptunus in Rotterdam. In 2019, he played only a part of the season with Bologna and despite posting a .412 batting average, he was released about halfway through the season.
His eternal grin has earned him the nickname Smiley. Next to his smile, he is also a blabbermouth when on the field, but in a good way.
With Jarreau Martina, the Braves acquire a versatile player, who is a decent hitter and who is a threat on the basepaths. Next to being a good backstop, he does patrol the outfield very well too.
