Today yours truly went to Wallonia to attend a game of the Belgian Division One between the Antwerp Eagles and the host Mont-Saint-Guibert Phoenix. Phoenix has a beautiful and brand new facility. A multifunctional complex suitable for baseball, football (soccer) and American Football. But it must be said that the fences are a nightmare for photographers.
A very eager Phoenix clinched two easy victories (10-1 and 9-3) against an Antwerp team that lacked fundamentals and of which several players seemed to be somewhere else with their minds. Phoenix took advantage of every error and mistake, the Eagles made. Phoenix played some excellent small ball. Especially in game one, the Antwerp Eagles had opportunities to score some runs but they did not cash in. The only run the Eagles scored in game one was on a solo shot to right field.
Here is an impression of today’s game.
He is out ump!! I am safe ump!!
Jamie Flynn is multifunctional: manager and groundsman.
Much to my surprise, a Dutch umpire was calling one of the two games.
It’s a wrap. Phoenix wins game two as well.
