According to Dutch news channel NOS, the Dutch government will announce new measures against the coronavirus tomorrow. One of the measures will be that amateur contact sports will be forbidden.
If this is really true, this is bad news for Dutch baseball. Since the government regarded baseball as a contact sport earlier this year, it may signal the end of the 2020 season.
This also means that the remainder of the Holland Series needs to be cancelled. Tonight the second game (in fact a make up game for game one that was rained out on Saturday) will be played in Rotterdam. That may very well be the final one of the 2020 Holland Series.
The question will be then, who will be declared champion? Will Neptunus be the champion based on the final standings of the regular season? Will Neptunus and Pirates be named co-champions or will there be no champion at all this year?
Becoming a champion looks nice in the history books but in fact it does not really matter as both Curaçao Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam Pirates will represent the Netherlands with the 2021 European Champions Cup. This was decided by the KNBSB earlier this year.
Tomorrow, we will know more what will happen to the remainder of the season. You will read it here.
