Today, the DBV (German Baseball and Softball Federation) announced the format that will be used for the 1. Bundesliga in Germany. Last weekend it was leaked already that the season will start in the weekend of August 8/9.
Last weekend the format of this year’s 1. Bundesliga was still up in the air. Clubs could choose from two formats: a competition with four divisions, each containing four teams or the regular two-division format with eight teams each.
Most clubs opted for the regular format, so that means there will be a North and a South division.
The North Division will contain the following teams:
Berlin Flamingos
Bonn Capitals
Cologne Cardinals
Dohren Wild Farmers
Dortmund Wanderers
Hamburg Stealers
Solingen Alligators
Untouchables Paderborn
The following teams will play in the South Division:
Heidenheim Heideköpfe
Mainz Athletics
Mannheim Tornados
München-Haar Disciples
Regensburg Legionäre
Stuttgart Reds
Tübingen Hawks
Ulm Falcons
The regular season will be played in seven rounds. The top two finishers of each league will advance to the playoffs; nr. 1 of each league vs the nr. 2 of the other league. The best of three championship series should be wrapped up on the weekend of October 17/18.
Even though the leagues can take off, the rules established to contain the coronavirus should be followed strictly.
The schedule of the opening weekend is as follows:
Saturday, AUGUST 8, 2020
The opening weekend starts with a nice showdown between two fierce rivals: the Dohren Wild Farmers and the Hamburg Stealers.
