Today in Baseball: Charlie Brown plays baseball for the first time
Today, 69 years ago, Charlie Brown appeared in catchers gear in the Peanuts comic. It was the first time that the main character of Peanuts practiced the American Pastime.
When you look at the drawings of the comic of that day in 1951, you will notice that the style of drawing of Charles M. Schultz has changed a lot through the years.
In this first baseball comic of the Peanuts series, there is no way to be seen that Charlie Brown’s team would be hapless. He is firing up his pitcher. In the last frame, it becomes clear that the game even hasn’t started yet and that this cheering was only to warm up himself.
Even though it may not something to celebrate, that 6th of March, 1951 is worth mentioning anyway.
After this first baseball episode, another 1,800 hundred would follow, about 10% of the total Peanuts comics.
