Dutch hoofdklasse 2019: Promotion/relegation series, game 4

As game four of the promotion/relegation series was rained out on Sunday, it was played tonight. After blowing the lead on Saturday, Glenn Wassink was clearly the man of the match as he pitched nine innings to guide Kinheim to a 6-3 victory.

After Linus Holmberg singled up the middle and drove in René Cremer in the first inning, Wesley van Hemert scored on a throwing error in the second inning.
Two more runs were added in the second inning when Jeldwin Orman drove in Bram Blokker with a single through the right side. Eventually, Orman scored on a sac fly by Marcel Tollenaars.

A sac fly by Tino van Erk and a single to center field by Leandro Anasagasti put DSS on the board in the bottom of the third inning.

In the following three innings, not much happened but in the top of the seventh, Nick Keur, who had replaced Robyn Clara, struggled with his control. With a runner on first, he hit two batters with a pitch and threw a wild pitch that allowed Kinheim to put runners in scoring position. A third hit by pitch loaded the bases and signaled the end for Keur as he was replaced by Sander Helmendach. Despite having the bases loaded and having no outs, Kinheim scored only one run when Bram Blokker scored on a sac fly.

After Kinheim scored one more run in the ninth, Glenn Wassink allowed an unearned run that led to the final score. Wassink went the distance and gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk and struck out six.

Linus Holmberg, the Swedish shortstop of Kinheim, was the best hitter as he went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The game itself was a festival of errors as DSS committed four miscues and Kinheim two.

With the series now tied at three, it will be “do or die” for both teams on Saturday. The game will be played at the Pim Mulier Stadium and will start at 14.00 (2 PM CET).
