After a strong part of a game vs Italy yesterday, South Africa appeared to continue to surprise the baseball community as the team took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Brett Willemburg singled up the middle to drive in Brendan Bouillon. But from there the South African offense stalled. The team managed to collect four more singles but they were too much scattered through the game to be dangerous.
In the fourth inning, Spain rallied for a big inning. Four consecutive singles and a walk drove in one run and loaded the bases. One would expect more runs with this many hits but when Jesus Ustariz singled he tried to stretch it into a double and was tagged out on a 7-6-4 play. With the bases loaded, Blake Ochoa hit a grand slam home run that gave Spain a 5-1 lead. A one-run seventh inning and a one-run eighth eventually put the final score on the board.
Riccardo Hernandez pitched eight innings for the win. He gave up an unearned run on five hits and two walks and struck out five. Blak Ochoa was the best Spanish hitter going 2-4 with a home run, four runs batted in and one run scored.

 Czech Republic  1  –  5  Italy
Despiting collecting more base hits than Italy, the Czech Republic lost. With one base hit less (nine), Italy was much more efficient at bat.
After the Czech Republic took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Italy came alongside in the bottom of that frame.
Radim Chroust lacked control in the third inning as he gave up a walk, hit a batter with a pitch and gave up a three-run home run to Chris Collabello. The run Italy scored in the fifth inning, came off Giuseppe Mazzanti’s bat as he drove in Andrew Maggi.
Angelo Palumbo earned the win for Italy after six innings. He allowed a run on seven hits and a walk and struck out two. Giuseppe Mazzanti was the best hitter for Italy with three hits out of four at-bats and one RBI.
