Dutch hoofdklasse 2018: Two lopsided deferred matches

Two deferred games tonight. In Hoofddorp, Pioniers hosted L&D Amsterdam Pirates and in Rotterdam, Silicon Storks hosted Curaçao Neptunus. The latter may sound strange as the game was played at Neptunus’ home field the Neptunus Family Stadium but since Storks doesn’t have a proper lighting system they play their home night games in Rotterdam.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates  18  –  5  Hoofddorp Pioniers
After two innings, L&D Amsterdam Pirates had taken a commanding 7-0 lead.
Amsterdam Pirates A home run by Keny Berkenbosch with Niels van Weert on gave Pirates a 2-0 lead.
Four walks, two errors, a double and a sac fly made Pirates score five runs in the second. From that moment on it wasn’t a game any longer. After Pirates scored another run in the third, Robin Schel’s no-hit bid was spoiled thanks to two doubles that also led to two runs for Pioniers. After a run in the fifth and the seventh and four in the eighth Pirates failed to finish the game prematurely in eight innings.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Robin Schel, who limited Pioniers to two unearned runs on four hits in seven inings, was replaced by Daan Hendrix. Because of the number of pitches Schel had used (97), it was a logical step but the choice for Hendrix did not pan out well. Hendrix gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in the eight inning. In this way, Pioniers avoided a mercy rule shortened game. Eventually, Pirates scored four more runs in the ninth inning to extend their lead to a thirteen-run margin. Seven of the runsPioniers Pirates scored were unearned.
Robin Schel earned the win as Ryan Oduber, who lasted 1.1 inning took the loss.
Best hitter for L&D Amsterdam Pirates was Aidan Finnegan, who entered the game in the seventh as replacement in left field. Finnegan went 2 for 2 with two runs batted in and a run scored.

Notable feat: After an absence of three seasons, Sven Huijer made his return to the hoofdklasse. He pitched one inning in which he gave up a run on three hits and struck out one.

Curaçao Neptunus  12  –  1  Silicon Storks
The other deferred game in Rotterdam was much like the one in Hoofddorp. After aNeptunus scoreless first, Curaçao Neptunus scored six runs in the second inning on five singles, two doubles, a triple a balk and a groundout. One inning later Silicon Storks got on the board when Tyron de Wind scored on a throwing error by shortstop Dudley Leonora.
Just like Robin Schel in Hoofddorp, Riki Saito had a no-hitter going on that was spoiled in the third inning.
Eventually Neptunus would score two more runs in the fourth and four in the seventh to end this game prematurely in seven innings.
