Dutch hoofdklasse 2018: Round 7 day 2

On day two of round seven, DSS crushed Storks, HCAW had no troubles with Hoofddorp Pioniers and De Glaskoning Twins and Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort ended in a tie.

HCAW  8  –  0  Hoofddorp Pioniers
The result was a bit flattered as four of the eight runs scored by HCAW were scored inHCAW the ninth inning. After the first two innings HCAW had a 4-0 lead but the Hoofddorp pitching staff retired the side in five of the following six innings until the ninth. But Hoofddorp Pioniers never came close to the victory. The team had a runner on third twice but never cashed in. In the ninth inning, Kevin Weijgertse started a rally with a single to first base followed three consecutive singles by Julian Goins, Julian Rip and Roland Laurens. Two groundouts and a single drove in three more runs for HCAW.
Kaj Timmermans earned the win as he kept Hoofddorp Pioniers limited to four hits inPioniers seven innings as he walked one and struck out four. Alexander Valdez took the loss.
Best hitter for HCAW was Delano Selassa with three hits out of five at-bats with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Silicon Storks  3  –  12  DSS
Silicon Storks that acquired former Minor League pitcher Juan Carlos Sulbaran, was no match for DSS. The team from The Hague was outhit and outscored 7-22 and 3-12.
By no means, this victory was flattered as DSS scored in almost every inning: three runs in the first and the second, two in the fourth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh of a very lopsided game.
Tim Halderman cruised through eight innings for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits and four walks as he struck out four. Despite the three errors Storks made, none of the twelve runs their pitchers had to give up were unearned.
Kevin Nieveld saw the ball very well today as he went 5 for 5 with two doubles and two RBI. But Denzel Richardson did pretty well at the plate too as he went 4 for 6 with a double and four RBI.
Thanks to this win, DSS surpasses De Glaskoning Twins in the standings and is now in fourth place.

Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort  5  –  5  De Glaskoning Twins
In a nailbiter of a game, De Glaskoning Twins could not cling on to 4-0 and 5-2 leads.
The game started in a good fashion Twins as Ruar Verkerk connected for a two-run home run to right field that landed just a few meters left of the foul pole behind the outfield fence. Mic van de Ven pitched five good innings in which he gave up two runs. After Jakob Syrén pitched a scoreless sixth, Shogo Nakashima pitched two frames in which he gave up two runs. The fifth run for Quick Amersfoort was given up by Thijs Steenwijk. So with a tie after nine innings, extra innings were needed. Thijs Steenwijk threw two of the remaining three and recovered rather well and kept Quick Amersfoort from scoring even though he was a tad wild at times. He got some help from his battery mate DaveTwinsJanssen, who made some amazing stops on the pitches that duck into the ground.
Luis Figuera pitched 5.2 innings for Quick Amersfoort in which he gave up all five runs to Twins. His replacement Jurjen van Zijl kept Twins on a leash as he limited them toonly three hits and struck out five.
Thanks to this tie, HCAW is running away from Twins in the standings and the club fromscore66Oosterhout has fallen out of the top four.
