Jiandido Tromp practices at AAA level

Aruban born Jiandido Tromp has been assigned to the Phillies’ AAA spring training camp. With 122 games with the AA Fightin Phils, the 24-year old also played three games at AAA level with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. So it looks like, Jiandido is starting where he had a cup of coffee last season.

Jiandido had a solid season at AA last year. In 456 at-bats, he collected 130 hits of which 31 doubles, 3 triples, and 18 home runs. He drew 29 walks and drove in 64 runs. He posted the following slug line: .285/.329/.485.

In the three games at AAA, Jiandido collected two hits in nine at-bats (one double), drew a walk and drove in two runs.

Yesterday, Jiandido was on the squad of the IronPigs that took on the Buffalo Bisons and beat them 1-0.  Tromp batted cleanup but did not collect a hit in four at-bats.

From 2012 through 2016, Tromp moved up and down several levels at single-A (short season, full season and advanced). During his first season at AA (in 2017), he had a breakout year.

Sure, Jiandido has to perform better at the plate than he did yesterday, but if he can adapt to the level of AAA, the bigs may not be far away.
