First win for WBSC in 2017 Asia Winter Baseball League
After yesterday’s tie vs the JABA team, the WBSC team took on the NPB West today. Despite almost collecting as many hits (12-14) the NPB West team managed to score only four runs. The defense of the team was shabby as they committed six errors, which cost them the game. The WBSC beat the NPB West 12-4.
Against the NPB West (representative of the Ni-Gun (minor league) Western League), the WBSC struck first in the second inning when it scored three runs. Matthew Chavez lead off and got on base on a throwing error by pitcher Moryia Koki that allowed him to advance to second base. Matthew Dean followed with a single to right field that allowed Chavez to advance to third base. On a sac fly by Angel Rosa, Chavez managed to score the opening run. Phildrick Llewellyn, who started behind the plate today, followed with an RBI double to drive in the second run for the WBSC. Llewellyn advanced to third on a balk and scored on a wild pitch.
In the top of the seventh inning, the WBSC stepped on it as they scored seven runs, partially thanks to a three-run home run, hit by Matthew Dean.
In the meantime, starting pitcher Gabriel Perez cruised through five innings for the win. In five innings he gave up five hits, two walks and fanned five.
The NPB West finally got on the board as they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
In a pinch-hit appearance Anthony Roselli drove in two with a single down the third base line, to give the WBSC a 12-3 lead.
Roselli was the best hitter, average wise with one hit out of one at-bat.
Phildrick Llewellyn went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Matthew Dean went 3 for 5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
