Battle for promotion in Dutch overgangsklasse not done yet

Since last weekend, the teams who will participate in the promotion/relegation group seemed to be set. Next to the three Dutch hoofdklasse clubs DSS, Pickles UVV and De Glaskoning Twins, three clubs from the overgangsklasse (one level below the hoofdklasse) appeared to be Storks (The Hague), Onze Gezellen (Haarlem) and Quick Amersfoort. But a fourth club seems to be in the running again.

Last Friday, the KNBSB (Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation) sent a letter to RCH-Pinguïns (from Heemstede, adjacent to Haarlem) and Curaçao Neptunus (from Rotterdam). It appears that the minor league team of Curaçao Neptunus, named Tridents, has used an iniquitous player in the game vs RCH-Pinguïns, which was played on May 7. Tridents won that game 4-3.

As a result of using this iniquitous player, the KNBSB has dedutcted two points from the total of Tridents and the game is nullified. This means the game has to be played again on the field of RCH-Pinguïns. This will happen on August 15 at 7.30 PM.

Since RCH-Pinguïns is trailing Onze Gezellen and Quick Amersfoort by two points in the standings, they can clinch a tie for second place in the overgangsklasse if they win the game vs Tridents. In that case Onze Gezellen, Quick Amersfoort and RCH-Pinguïns will be tied for second place at 42 points.  Storks will continue to the promotion / relegation group anyway. The team was vastly dominant this year and finished on top of the standings leading the second place teams by twelve points.

With three teams tied for second place, the results of the mutual games will count.
In the mutual confrontations of the three, Quick Amersfoort won three, RCH-Pinguïns won two and Onze Gezellen won one. In that case, Onze Gezellen will be out of contention.

But nevertheless, RCH-Pinguïns still has to win the make up game vs Tridents to advance to the promotion / relegation group.
