U15 European Championship 2017: Russia blanked by the Netherlands

In the fourth game of the Netherlands on the 2017 U15 European Championship, the team showed no mercy for Russia as they won 17-0 in four mercy rule innings. Russia managed to collect only one hit on the superb pitching of the Dutch and the Netherlands took advantage of eleven walks, four errors, one balk, one wild pitch and two hits by pitch.

In a very lopsided game, the first inning was an omen of what was about to come.
The first four hitters reached base without getting a base hit. A walk, a HBP, a balk and a fielding error led to the first run of the game for the Netherlands. A sac fly by Chris Stuart to left field drove in Tyriq Kemp for the second run. After Ayran Araya Lemaire drew another walk, a single by Jesse Velders drove in Emile Haswell to make it 3-0. Luca Pastor drew a walk to load the bases again before Jason Netten drove in Ayran Araya Lemaire on a sac fly. After a double steal, Jesse Velders drove in two more runs for the Dutch to make it 6-0.

After slowing down in the second inning in which the team scored one run when Emile Haswell scored on a throwing error that followed a fielding error by the Russian first baseman who could not field Ayran Araya Lemaire’s “hit”.

A six run third and a four run fourth sealed the fate of the Russian and ended the game prematurely.

Manager Eric de Bruin used two pitchers and both did an excellent job. Jelle van der Lelie pitched three perfect innings in which he fanned two for the win. Jayden Gonesh pitched the fourth frame and gave up the sole hit Russia collected and struck out one.

Best hitter for the Dutch was Jesse Velders, who went 2 for 2 with a triple, five RBI and a run scored.

Hitting results for the Netherlands:

Luuk Bun: 1 for 1 with a run scored.
Raidley Legito: 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.
Tariq Kemp: 1 for 2 with a walk and three runs scored.
Ayran Araya Lemaire: 1 for 2 with a double, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored.
Jelle van der Lelie: 1 for 3 with three RBI.
