Reigning Dutch champion, Curaçao Neptunus, has added a left-handed pitcher to their roster. American Trevor Reckling will be the extra arm the club desperately needed after Loek van Mil and Orlando Yntema hit the disabled list.
With the current wave of pitchers hitting the DL, one could wait for the move by the Rotterdam based club.
Reckling is a former MiLB pitcher from the organization of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who drafted him as an eighteen-year-old in the eighth round of the 2007 draft. The left-hander played for St. Benedicts Prep in New Jersey, a school mainly known for its powerhouse basketball program, not baseball.
Reckling started his professional career with the Arizona Angels (rookie), where he appeared in nine games. In 2008 he played for the Cedar Rapids Kernels (A Full Season) and posted a 10-7 record with a 3.37 ERA. In 2009 he split the season between AA Arkansas Travelers and A-Advanced Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (back then still an Angels affiliate). He posted a combined record of 9 wins and 9 losses with a 2.68 ERA.
In 2010 he split the season between AA and the AAA Salt Lake Bees, but during this season he had a major setback as he posted a 7-13 record with a 6.42 ERA. In 2011 he still would have a losing record but at least his ERA was decent at 3.73. In four appearances in 2012 for the Inland Empire (A-Advanced) he posted a 0-1 record with an 18.90 ERA.
After that season he was released by the Angels but the White Sox signed him and assigned him to their AAA farm team but at the end of May 2013, he was released by the White Sox.
The next team to pick him up were the Cincinnati Reds, who assigned him to their AA team, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in October. In March 2014 he was released again.
The final MLB organization that picked him up was the Arizona Diamondbacks but also this club would release him before the start of the season.
Also, two stints with Indy teams, the Bridgeport BlueFish and the Rockland Boulders were not a success.
Next to a lot of mishaps, Reckling knew some successes too. He won the 2009 World Championship with team USA as they beat Cuba in the final. In that very same year, Reckling appeared in the All-Star Game of the Texas League and in the Futures Game which precedes the MLB All-Star Game and was named pitcher of the year of the Angels’ organization.
