Another example of the deplorable situation that Dutch baseball is in.
According to an official press release sent to all hoofdklasse clubs by the KNBSB (Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation), baseball club Kinheim from Haarlem has withdrawn from the Dutch hoofdklasse.
It was rumored for a longer period that many players would leave the club and that the club would withdraw because they could not form a hoofdklasse worthy team anymore.
Apparently the club was not able to attract new players or fill the vacant spots with youth players, so the only option was a withdrawal.
This is very sad news. Luckily the club does not cease to exist, but it is alarming that a famed club like Kinheim will no longer be a hoofdklasse club anymore.
The club was founded in 1935. In 1978, 1994, 2006, 2007 and 2012 the club won the Dutch pennant and in 2007 the club won the European champions cup.
What will happen next with the vacant spot in the hoofdklasse is not clear yet. Only one overgangsklasse club was willing to promote: RCH/Pinguins. Perhaps that this team will take the vacant spot, although it remains to be seen if that club can form a hoofdklasse worthy team.
