Rockies and JetHawks team up

Even though the teams did not make an official announcement, the Colorado Rockies and the Lancaster JetHawks (A Advanced, California League) signed a player development contract as new partners.
The JetHawks sent out a tweet about the new PDC earlier today.

The strange thing is that on their website, the club is still marked as an affilate of the Houston Astros.

After spending twelve years in Modesto with the Nuts, the Rockies were replaced by the Seattle Mariners who bought a majority share of 51% in the club.
When the news was announced about the signing of the Carolina Mudcats by the Milwaukee Brewers, it was clear immediately that the Rockies would head to Lancaster for the next season.

Also on their Facebook page, the JetHawks made a quick announcement but we still have to wait on the official announcement by both clubs.

Even though the team has not adapted the website yet, as it still shows the Astros logo, the JetHawks published the official announcement on their website on Monday, October 3rd.

Of course various pleasantries were exchanged as JetHawks chairman Jade Kerr stated: “The JetHawks are thrilled to welcome the Colorado Rockies to Lancaster,” said JetHawks Chairman Jake Kerr. “They have a reputation of being a first class organization both on and off the field, and we couldn’t be more excited to have them as our affiliate for the next two years and beyond. Their commitment to building a winning organization while also giving back to the community makes the Rockies a perfect fit for us. There is no doubt our fans will continue to see some great baseball at The Hangar in 2017.”

“The Rockies are thrilled to partner with the Lancaster JetHawks and are excited to build new relationships with the JetHawks and their fans. Our ultimate goal is to maximize the potential of every player in the organization and we believe our new partnership with Lancaster will help us reach that goal,” said Zach Wilson, Senior Director, Player Development for the Rockies.

The JetHawks’ recent history dates back to 1996 when the team moved over from Riverside where they had the nickname Pilots. From the time in Riverside (1993) through 2000, the team was a Mariners affiliation.
Before the team moved to RiverSide, the team was located in Reno, where it operated under the names SilverSox (1955 – 1964, 1966–1981, 1988–1992) and Reno Padres (1982-1987).

Through the decades, the team had a variety of parent clubs, but from 1988-1992 the team operated as a co-op team, affiliated with more than one MLB club.
