Ozhaino Albies sent to minor league camp

When Ozhaino Albies received a Spring Training invitiation, no one knew how long he would stay in the Major League camp. Yesterday it was announced that the Braves have sent him down to the Minor League spring training camp. Nothing to be ashamed about after the successful Spring Training that he had so far.

In sixteen games and thirty-five at bats, Ozhaino collected thirteen basehits (a batting average of .371), of which a double and a homerun. Ozhaino drove in five runs, walked three times, stole two bases out of three attempts.

He played a total of nineteen games with the big boys, ten as a shortstop and nine at second base. At both positions he committed one error, resulting in a fielding percentage of .967 and .909 respectively.

Ozhaino played the entire 2015 campaign with the Rome Braves of the South Atlantic League (A Full Season). It is expected that he will start the season at A Advanced with the Carolina Mudcats before he will be promoted to AA Mississippi.

Don’t be surprised if the Curacao native makes the jump to the Majors from AA near the end of the season. Perhaps this will only be to let him get some experience in the Bigs before the Braves will call him up in 2017 for good. With the attitude that Albies has shown, the Braves will find a spot for him on their roster. Earlier this spring, Ozhaino stated that he was willing to play every position as long as he can get to the Bigs.

To be continued….
