Jason Standridge draws interest of Chiba Lotte Marines
Team mate of Rick van den Hurk, Jason Standridge is drawing interest of the Chiba Lotte Marines. Standridge (37) has become free agent after winning the NPB title with the Fukuoka Sofbank Hawks.
Standridge appeared in 23 regular season games and posted a 10-7 record with a 3.74 ERA. Standridge was kind of outperformed by Rick van den Hurk who debuted with the Hawks this year, appearing in fifteen games of which he won nine. Van den Hurk posted a 2.52 ERA. Van den Hurk struck out 120 batters and walked only 22 compared to the 81 Ks and the 44 walks of Standridge.
Standridge was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1997 as 31st pick in round one. In 2001 Standridge debuted with the Devil Rays. Eventually he was signed by the Softbank Hawks after he was released by the Royals.
The Marines reached the climax series of the Pacific League but were eliminated by the Hawks by three games to one.
According to www.sponichi.jp.co, the Marines are in need of a starting pitcher. Standridge clinched 63 victories in eight seasons in the NPB.
The Softbank Hawks aren’t really thin in starting pitchers, so Standridge
is not really needed anymore.
