My top ten MLB caps

About a year ago, I posted an article about my 10 favorite Minor League Caps. Since I have never posted something similar about MLB caps, I thought it would be time doing so.

I will start this article with number 10 and count down to one.

10: Miami Marlins Road Cap
I am not a Marlins fan whatsoever. As long as Jeffrey Loria is the owner of Miami Marlins Authentic Collection On-Field 59FIFTY Road Cap - MLB.com Shopthe club, I will not buy any piece of merchandise of the Marlins. But I must admit that I like the orange road cap. The logo is fresh and different. The all orange cap is something you do not see anywhere else (besides with the Astros).

9. Minnesota Twins old home/road cap
Minnesota Twins New Era MLB Retro World Series Patch 59FIFTY Cap HatsSince I am into baseball, I have always loved this relatively sober cap. The rather simple M has a somewhat odd shape when you look at the upper and lower curves. They are not symmetrical. Even though I like he new (or original if you want to) TC cap as well, this one is still may favorite Minnesota Twins cap.

8.  Boston Red Sox Alternate cap
This may surprise many of you. A Yankee fan liking a cap of the arch rival?Boston Red Sox Authentic Collection On-Field 59FIFTY Alternate Cap - MLB.com Shop The home cap of the Red Sox is nothing special IMHO, but this one has a classic look with the red socks on the front. Anyhow I like it, but not enough to end with a higher ranking.

7. New York Mets home cap
This cap of the Mets is a classic one too. Even though some tend to say that the cap has the colors of the New York City flag, I tend to believe that this cap is a homage to the New York Giants (logo) and the Brooklyn Dodgers (color), who both left for California after the 1957 season, to look for greener pastures. The combination of the two marks of the former New York arch rivals makes it one of my favorites.

6. San Diego Padres Alternate 2 cap
This one only came out yesterday. But it is a homage to the cap that the San Diego Padres 2016 Authentic Collection On-Field 59FIFTY Alternate 2 Cap - MLB.com ShopPadres wore from 1973, the so called Taco Bell cap. Sure the interlocking SD logo does not resemble the one the original cap had, but that doesn’t matter to me. This one is an awesome cap. It sure is on my wishlist.

5. Pittsburgh Pirates Alternate 3 cap
Pittsburgh Pirates 2015 Authentic Collection On-Field 59FIFTY Alternate 3 Cap - MLB.com ShopSince the Pirates have been a Pittsburgh equivalent of the lovable losers
from Chicago over the last two decades, I always had a soft spot for them. Their home cap is not really something special but this digital camo cap is awesome, even though I do not agree with the admiration of the military in US sports. Anyhow the combination of the camo cap, the black lid and the yellow outlined black P makes it a great item for me.

4. St. Louis Cardinals Alternate 2 cap
St. Louis Cardinals Authentic Collection On-Field 59FIFTY Alternate 2 Cap - MLB.com ShopI am not a Cardinals fan, but their jersey is something classic. They sport the bat with the Red Birds on it since 1922. To me this cap is a kind of extension piece of that jersey. The golden bat and the cardinal on the navy background are a perfect combination.

3. Milwaukee Brewers Alternate Cap
The Milwaukee Brewers used to wear this cap from 1978 until 1994, when Milwaukee Brewers Authentic Collection On-Field 59FIFTY Alternate Cap - MLB.com Shopthey changed the style of their logo, cap and uniform. This cap carries one of the so called smart logos of the 1970s. The M and the B are in the shape of a baseball glove. This logo alone makes this cap end up in the top three of my favorite MLB caps.

2. New York Yankees
New York Yankees Authentic Collection On-Field 59FIFTY Game Cap - MLB.com ShopWhat? The cap of your favorite team not in first place? No, indeed. How much I love the Yankees and how much I love that classic cap with the interlocking NY logo, there is one cap that I think is even better than this one. But nevertheless, this cap is a classic. And since the Yankees do not take part in the craze of alternate caps and road caps, this one deserves to end in a high spot of my top ten.

1. Montreal Expos
The now defunct Montreal Expos wore this cap from 1992. It was the classic M on a new all royal blue cap in stead of the red-white-blue cap which they wore from their inaugural year 1969 until 1992.
This M is also one of the smart logos of the sevenies (okay sixties in this case). The M is a composite of an E for Expos and a B for Baseball. Awesome in my humble opinion. It deserves to be in the number one spot.  Unfortunately the replicas that are made nowadays are cheap knockoffs.
