Dutch Hoofdklasse, Tuesday June 30

Tonight one game and a remainder of another were scheduled.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates would take on Curacao Neptunus in Rotterdam and Mampaey the Hawks and UVV would play the remainder of a game that was played on May 28, in which a player of the Hawks had used an illegal bat. UVV filed a protest in the fourth inning and it was sustained, so the game had to be played again, starting in the top of the fourth, with the Hawks leading 3-0. Tiny detail. The game on May 28 ended in a 9-9 tie due to the curfew rule.

Mampaey the Hawks @ UVV  4 – 3

So with Mampaey the Hawks leading 3-0 after three innings, they would score one more run in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead. But UVV would put itself on the board in the seventh when Jamie Verheyleweghen and Dennis RIbbens hit consecutive singles, followed by a fielder’s choice for Joris van Ballegooy. Dennis Ribbens was put out at second base and Jamie Verheyleweghen advanced to third. Gilmer Lampe drove in Jamie Verheyleweghen with a single to left field on which Joris van Ballegooy advanced to third. Joris van Ballegooy eventually scored UVV’s second run on a wild pitch.
In the eighth the team from Utrecht would score one more run as Brennan Nijhof crossed homeplate all the way from first base on a double hit by Jamie Verheyleweghen. But that would be it regarding the offensive aspirations of UVV.
Looking to the score afterwards, UVV had better not filed a protest on May 28.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates @ Curacao Neptunus  4 – 1

This game was played in advance because at the time it had to be played, Neptunus will have European Cup obligations.

For two and a half inning both pitchers kept the opponent from scoring. But in the bottom of the third inning, Rob Cordemans gave up an unearned run to Neptunus. Hitting lead off in that inning, Shaldimar Daantji reached first base on a dropped fly ball by right fielder Linoy Croes. With one out, Daantji advanced to second base on a passed ball and reached third on a single hit by Dwayne Kemp. Benjamin Dille fouled out tor right field and because of the catch in right field, Daantji could score the opening run. But in the top of the fourth ining Pirates would tie the game. A double down the left field line hit by Kenny Berkenbosch, followed by two consecutive ground outs, made Berkenbosch score the game tying run.
In the seventh inning, a single by Linoy Croes would drive in Patrick Bok from third base to give Pirates a 2-1 lead. An unearned run in the eighth and an unearned run in the ninth lead to the 4-1 victory for Pirates over Neptunus.
Rob Cordemans was masterful again and gave up an unearned run in a complete game. Cordemans struck out five and walked one. After giving up the go-ahead run to Pirates, Kenny van den Branden took the loss. He lasted 6.1 ininings in which he gave up two runs on five hits and struck out three.
Best hitter for L&D Amsterdam Pirates was Linoy Croes, who went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a walk. Dwayne Kemp also went 2 for 3 for Curacao Neptunus but he didn’t drive in a run.
