Dutchies in All Star Games: California League – Carolina League ASG

It is the time of the All Star Games again. Several Dutchies have been invited to participate.

Yesterday the Southern League had it’s annual fan fest in Montgomery. But no Dutchies participated there.

The other All Star Game that was played yesterday was at A Advanced level between the California League that hosted the Carolina League in Rancho Cucamonga at the Epicenter (or Loanmart Field like it is called nowadays), home of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

Spencer Kieboom played for the Carolina League All Stars and was starting catcher in the game.

The Carolina League scored the opening run in the top of the first inning when Ramon Torres (Wilmington BlueRocks) scored from third base on a wild pitch by pitcher Zack Godley (Visalia RawHide). Eventually Godley would last only 0.2 innings after he was hit in the leg by a line drive.
In the top of the second inning, with Luigi Rodriguez (Lynchburg HillCats) on first base, Spencer Kieboom grounded into a force out to second base and was safe on a fielder’s choice. The next hitter, Johan Camargo (Carolina Mudcats) grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The California League tied the game in the bottom of the second inning when Alex Burg (High Desert Mavericks) doubled to right field and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Burg scored when Jordan Patterson (Modesto Nuts) grounded into a double play.
By the next time that Spencer Kieboom came at bat, the California League had scored two more runs to take a 3-1 lead. Kieboom grounded into an inning ending double play in the fourth inning and was replaced when he would have had his third at bat in the top of the seventh inning.

The California League would score six more runs (three in the fourth and three in the sixth inning) and the Carolina League would add one more run to their total in the top of the seventh, to reach the final score. The California League won the game 9-2.

Of course this wasn’t about winning, but John Omahen (Visalia RawHide) earned the win after pitching one inning in relief. Spencer Kieboom’s team mate with the Potomac Nationals, Nick Pivetta, took the loss after allowing two runs in relief.

Rancho Cucamonga player Brandon Trinkwon was the man of the match for the California League as he went 2 for 2 with two RBI and three runs scored.
