Curacaoan infielder Gianfranco Wawoe has been promoted by the Seattle Mariners.
I realize that this is a bit old news, but since I focused on the European Cup, I have totally missed this news.
Wawoe, who played a variable season at A Full Season level with the Clinton LumberKings of the Midwest League, has been promoted to the Jackson Generals of the AA Southern League. Until his promotion, Wawoe hit .250 coming a long way down from .376.
His promotion is linked to a trade between the Mariners and the Diamondbacks that included six players. Next to that trade, catcher Steve Baron was promoted to AAA Tacoma. To fill the voids on the Generals’ roster Wawoe and a couple of other minor leaguers were promoted.
In the meantime Wawoe has played one game for the Generals. On June 6 he went 1 for 4 in a game vs the Chattanooga Lookouts (Twins affiliate). Hitting in the nr. two spot in the lineup, he hit a double, scored a run and struck out once.
