European Cup 2015: Results of day five in Rotterdam and Paris

Heidenheim Heideköpfe @ Draci Brno  5 – 1

Draci had to win to get to the final game towmorrow. Of course they were depending on the result of the afternoon game between A.S.D. Rimini Pirates and Curacao Neptunus.
In the first inning Draci Brno openened the score when they scored a run when Michal Ondracek scored from second base when Premek Chroust reached first base on a fielding error by second baseman Stefan Karpf.
In the top of the fourth James McOwen singled and advanced a base on a wild pitch. Eventually McOwen scored the game tying run on another wild pitch.
After Brno took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, they added a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the eight. Premek Chroust drew a walk, MIchael Kremlacek was hit by a pitch and Adam Hajtmar drew another walk to load the bases. After Jakub Hajtmar fouled out, Jan Felki was also hit by a pitch, o Premek Chroust scored the fourth run for Brno. After another foul out by Alexander Derhak, Arnost Dubovy singled in the fifth and final run for Brno.
Edvard Matusevicius pitched five innings for the win. He struck out four, walked one and allowed one run on three hits.
Luke Sommer lost his second game of this tournament. He lasted six innings in which he gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits. He struck out two and walked one.

A.S.D. Rimini Pirates @ Curacao Neptunus 3 – 5

Knowing that they had to win, Rimini took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. They jumped on Gijs Timmer who gave up a double and two singles. In the fourth Edgar Mundarain scored on a throwing error to give Rimini a 3-0 lead. But after that Timmer settled down and didn’t give up any runs. In the sixth inning, Neptunus fought back. Stijn van der Meer hit a lead off single followed by a double down the left field line, hit by Dwayne Kemp. After Raily Legito struck out, Rien Vernooij singled to right field. As he tried to stretch the single into a double he was thrown out 9-6-3. Van der Meer and Kemp scored and Neptunus came within one run of Rimini. After Benjamin Dille hit a lead off single in the bottom of the seventh, he advanced to second base on a sac bunt, laid down by Shaldimar Daantji. After Alexis Candelario gave up a walk to Gianison Boekhoudt, he was replaced by Victor Moreno. But Moreno gave up an RBI single to Stijn van der Meer. After Dwayne Kemp hit into a force out at second (Stijn van der Meer was put out), Neptunus had runners on the corners. A double hit by Raily Legito drove in Boekhoudt and Kemp to give Neptunus a decisive 5-3 lead.
Jorien van Acker, who relieved GIjs Timmer in the seventh inning, earned the win after pitching one inning in which he did not give up a hit, walked one and struck out one. After pitching 1.1 inning, Loek van Mil earned the save.
Victor Moreno took the loss as he blew the lead in 1.2 innings. He gave up one run on three hits and struck out two.

KNTU Elizavetgrad @ Templiers de Sénart

After the first inning was over both teams had scored one run. But Sénart would score three in the next inning. With two outs already, Felix Brown drew a walk and stole second base. Jacques Boucheron drove in Brown with a single to right field. After Jason Mahood drew a walk, Rolando Merino hit to right field and drove in Boucheron for the second run of the inning. The third run was scored when Jason Mahood stole homeplate. After Les Templiers scored two more runs in the top of the sixth, the Ukrainians put runners on the corners in the bottom of the same inning. Roman Boiko could score on a throwing error by pitcher Leonel Cespedes. Cespedes earned the win after seven innings of work. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out eight and walked one. Serhiy Shtapura was tabbed with the loss after he lasted only 1.2 innings. He gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits, walked two and struck out two. Rolando Merino was the best hitter for Sénart with four hits out of five at bats with a double and two runs batted in. Dmytro Nelipa went 2 for 3 for KNTU Elizavetgrad with a run scored and a walk.

Thanks to Draci Brno’s win over Rimini, yesterday, Brno advances to the final game tomorrow.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates @ UnipolSai Bologna 0 – 9

Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Bologna was already leading 3-0.
Juan Infante led off the seventh with a single and advanced on a 1-3 ground out. After Claudio Liverziani was hit by a pitch and Alessandro Vaglio singled to left field and drove in Infante, Kyle Ward was replaced by Tom de Blok on the mound. De Blok immediately gave up a single to Alex Sambucci, who drove in Liverziani with his hit. Then Eladio Russo singled to left field and drove in Alessandro Vaglio. A single by Martin Mondino followed by a double hit by Alessandro Grimaudo, drove in three more runs to make it 9-0. Raul Rivero dominated the lineup of L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Pirates got runners on third a couple of times and they were close to score a run in the sixth, when Michael Duursma was thrown out at homeplate. Kyle Ward took the loss after 6.2 innings of work. He gave up six runs on hits, walked two and struck out one.
Rivero lasted 7.2 innings and gave up only four hits, walked two and struck out nine. Alessandro Vaglio was the best hitter as he collected 2 hits out of three at bats with a homerun and three runs batted in.

Solingen Alligators @ Brest Zubrs   20 – 1
In the afternoon game in Chartres, Solingen still needed eight innings to end the game. After a modest 2-1 lead after the fifth inning, they stepped on it in the top of the sixth. A walk and a hit by pitch opened the inning for Solingen. Both runners advanced a base when Florian Goetze grounded out 2-3. A sacrifice fly hit by Johannes Heidemann, drove in Markus Stryczek. A double by Daniel Sanchez followed by a triple hit by Tanner Leighton, drove in two more runs for Solingen. Leighton scored the fourth run of the inning as he stole homeplate.
After the Alligators scored a run in the seventh, the sealed Brest’s fate with a whopping thirteen run eighth inning.
Even though Markus Stryczek went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Tanner Leighton had the most impact with five hits out of seven at bats and three runs batted in. Uladzislau Ilyin was the best hitter for the Zubrs with two hits out of three at bats. Aliaksei Lukashevich took the loss after pitching five innings in which he gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits. T&A San Marino @ PUC  11 – 1

San Marino was way too strong for last year’s French runner up. A three run second and a three run sixth inning actually were enough to clinch the victory, but to make it just a little bit worse for PUC, San Marino scored five more runs in the sixth inning. PUC got on the board in the bottom of the seventh to reach the final score of another mercy rule shortened game. Nicholas Morreale earned the win for San Marino after six innings of work. He gave up three hits and walk and struck out five. James Murrey lasted five innings for the loss in which he gave up six runs (four earned) on six hits. He walked two and fanned six. Mario Chiarini went 3 for 4 with a double an RBI and two runs scored for San Marino.
