Kenley Jansen activated from DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated Kenley Jansen from the DL

After foot surgery earlier this year, Jansen pitched six games at the Dodgers’ A Advanced affiliate Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He appeared in six games, of which five starts. In 5.1 innings he gave up three runs on five hits (one homerun) and struck out eight.

Jansen will not be used as a closer rightaway. Manager Don Mattingly and he discussed this and according Jansen it is better to pitch an inning at the time to get his feel back and to get used to MLB again.

Jansen is brought back at a moment in which the rear-end of the bullpen needs some help. Mattingly has used three different pitchers in the final parts of the game, but all had problems in keeping the lead.

The plan was to  activate Jansen before Saturday’s game, but with Pedro Baez going to the DL, they chose to call up Jansen one day sooner.
