There were two surprising results today.
L&D Amsterdam Pirates – Vaessen Pioniers 3 – 2
In a game between title candidates, Vaessen Pioniers took an early lead in the first inning. With two outs, Dirk van ‘t Klooster and Vince Rooi singled, followed by a double down the left field line hit by Mark Jan Moorman that drove in both Van ‘t Klooster and Rooi. Pirates’ starting pitcher Rob Cordemans kept Pioniers in check until he was pulled in the top of the eighth inning. It took Pirates six innings to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Rashid Gerard hit towards second baseman Daniel Fernandes, who committed a fielding error. All runners advanced a base and Nick Urbanus scored the first run for Pirates. Kenny Berkenbosch the tying run on Jesse Aussems’ single to left field. Both teams didn’t score in the regular nine innings, so the dreaded tie breaker rule was put in place. With Kevin Weijgertse placed on second base and Max Draijer placed on first, Pioniers failed to score. Kevin Weijgertse was picked off second base by pitcher Daan
Hendrix, Daniel Fernandes struck out and Danny Rombley grounded out 5-3.
For Pirates, Michael Duursma was placed on second base and Nick Urbanus was placed on first. Michael Duursma advanced to third base on a fielder’s choice hit by Kenny Berkenbosch. As Rashid Gerard hit a fly ball to right field, it was dropped by right fielder Dirk van ‘t Klooster. Duursma scored the winning run on the error.
Daan Hendrix earned the win in this narrow escape for L&D Amsterdam Pirates in which they were outhit 10 -5. He pitched two innings, allowed one hit and struck out one. Bayron Cornelisse took the loss as Pirates scored the winning run with him on the mound. Nick Urbanus went 2 for 5, struck out once and scored a run for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Kevin Dirksen was the best hitter for Vaessen Pioniers as he went 2 for 3.
Curacao Neptunus – Pronto DSS 6 – 3
It what seemed to become an easy game for Neptunus after they took a 5-0 and then a 6-1 lead.
In the third inning, Curacao Neptunus took a 2-0 lead as Urvin Kemp singled and stole second base before Adrian Anthony to right center field to drive him in. A ground out by Shaldimar Daantji made Anthony advance to third base, followed by another ground out, this time hit by Gyenuar Lopez that allowed him to score the second run for Neptunus.
Neptunus scored one run in the fourth and one in the sixth. Pronto DSS then got on the board in the top of the seventh as Berry van Driel took over from DIegomar Markwell. The first batter that Van Driel faced, Ryan Miner led off with a double. He advanced on a passed ball and eventually scored on a ground out hit by Lex Leijenaar. Neptunus countered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. But in the top of the ninth ininng, DSS made Neptunus work for their money. Jorian van Acker replaced Berry van Driel and gave up a single to Tino van Erk who promptly stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Ryan Miner. Koen Halderman then singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Van Erk. After Halderman stole second, Tommy van der Sanden singled to left field on which Haldermand advanced to third. When Mark Smit singled, Halderman scored the third run for DSS. But that was about it as Sven Jongejans struck out.

HCAW – Mampaey the Hawks 2 – 3
The first surprise of today was in this game. Where HCAW took the lead in the first inning by scoring one run, the Hawks tied the game in the fourth. In the seventh both teams would score again. Mampaey the Hawks took the lead on a lead off homerun by catcher Brian Raap. With two outs, Tim Roodenburg doubled to right center field and scored on a single to right field. Boyd Tumuhury led off with a walk but was thrown out on a 6-4 force play hit by Jarreau Martina. As second baseman Stephen Henson fried to make the double play he made a throwing error that allowed Martina to advance to second base. As Rossini Frolijk singled up through the middle, Martina scored the second run for HCAW. But HCAW wouldn’t get any further. Mampaey the Hawks finished the game with a triple play as Rossini Frolijk lined out to first base and Roy Seltenrijck and Jarreau Martina were bowled off the bases.
Quinn Tramm earned the win for the Hawks and pitched in six full innings in which he gave up two runs on five hits. He walked six and fanned five. Sander Helmendach was the victim of the lack of run support and took the loss after 7.1 innings in which he allowed three runs on nine hits. He only walked one and struck out five.
This was the first win of the 2015 season for Mampaey the Hawks.
Corendon Kinheim – UVV 1 – 4
The second surrpise of today was in this game.
UVV took a 1-0 lead when Gilmer Lampe scored after he had hit a double, stole third base and was walked in when Arshwin Asjes gave up a bases loaded walk. Asjes had some control issues in the fourth inning as he gave up three consecutive walks. Joris van Ballegooy was hit by a pitch so al runners moved up one base. Then manager Wim Martinus had seen enough and replaced Asjes with David Bergman. Bergman gave up a single to Gilmer Lampe that drove in Thomas Smits. Dennis de Quint hit a sac fly to center field that drove in Dennis Ribbens for the 4-0.
All Corendon Kinheim could do in return was scoring a run in the eighth as Dudley Leonora singled, followed by walk drawn by Calvin Martinus. Sven van der Sanden also drew a walk to load the bases. A single by Jochem Koedijk eventually drove in Martina to put Kinheim on the boards.
Claudio Bavera ptiched three innings in relief and gave up one run on two hits, walked one and struck out three. Arshwin Asjes took the loss as he gave up all four runs to UVV.
