On this rainy day three of round three, the follwing games were scheduled:
Mampaey the Hawks – Curacao Neptunus; Corendon Kinheim – L&D Amsterdam Pirates; UVV – HCAW; Vaessen Pioniers – Pronto DSS.
Mampaey the Hawks – Curacao Neptunus 2 – 5
Neptunus starting pitcher Kenny van den Branden was perfect through the first four innings but his party was spoiled in the
fifth inning by Berend Ruben of Mampaey the Hawks. After two scoreless innings Gyenuar Lopez hit a lead off double to left center field. His Neptunus team mate Benjamin DIlle grounded out to first base as he advanced to third base. A single by Gianison Boekhoudt drove in the opening run for Neptunus. A throwing error by Hawks pitcher Kevin van Veen in the fourth inning eventually lead to the second run for Neptunus. Daantji eventually scored on a single by Gyenuar Lopez.
Neptunus scored a run in the fourth and the fifth to make it 3-0. But Mampaey the Hawks didn’t want to be slaughtered like
they were yesterday. A single by Berend Ruben In the bottom of the fifth inning, followed by a triple hit by Brian Raap put the Hawks on the boards. As Gregory Trinidad singled to left field, Brian Raap scored the second run for the Hawks.
Neptunus countered in the next inning by scoring two runs as well to make it 5-2. That would be the last runs to be scored in the game. Loek van Mil pitched the last inning for Neptunus for the save. run. In the fourth inning Piioniers scored four more runs to make it 7-0. In the next four innings, Pioniers had runners in scoring position three times, but they failed to cash in; just like they thought it was enough.
DSS had a runner in scoring position in the eighth but couldn’t get further as Sven Jongejans grounded out 1-3. Taylor Clemensia pitched the final two innings for Pioniers and retired the side in the ninth. Elton Koeiman pitched six innings in which he allowed four hits and walked two , for the win. UVV – HCAW 17 – 7
After HCAW’s good game yesterday, you’d expect a similar today. Well, it became clear that one game isn’t the other.
After UVV scored the opening run in the frist inning, HCAW bounced back with with two runs in the second and one run in the third to take a 3-1 lead. But UVV wasn’t impressed at all as they scored three runs in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth to take an 11-3 lead.
HCAW seemed to go down 1-2-3 in the sixth inning but managed to get back in the game. Jazon Allee drew a walk and advanced to second when Peter van Doesburg singled on a grounder to left field. Allee scored on Brian Biezen’s single to left center field. The bases were loaded when Roy Seltenrijch drew a walk. That signalled the end for UVV pitcher Jurjen van Zijl. His successor Claudio Bavera started the inning by balking in Van Doesburg.
Emmerson Paula singled towards first base on which Brian Biezen could score the sixth run for HCAW. HCAW scored one more run in the top of the eighth, But UVV scored one in the bottom of the seventh and five more in the bottom of the eighth to end the game according to the mercy rule.
Jurjen van Zijl pitched 5.2 innings for UVV and earned the win by allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits. He walked four and struck out eight. Sander Helmendach took the loss for HCAW. In three innings he gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits. He walked one and fanned two.

For the neutral fan this must have been an entertaining game. 24 runs but seven errors; four on the side of UVV and three committed by HCAW.
Corendon Kinheim – L&D Amsterdam Pirates 7 – 3
After a very long wait, the game started over two hours later than it usually does on Sunday. That is why I initially wrote that the game was cancelled.
Kinheim’s starting pitcher, Glenn Wassink, didn’t start well. Without getting an out he loaded the bases. As Remco Draijer hit the ball towards first baseman Jeffrey Arends, the latter fired the ball towards homeplate where catcher Ricardo tagged out Michael Duursma, who charged from third base. Then Bas Nooij drew an RBI walk to give Pirates the 1-0 lead. A sac fly hit by Jesse Aussems, drove in Kenny Berkenbosch for the second run of the game.
Three consecutive singles by Jeffrey Arends, Kalian Sams and Dudley Leonora, made Arends score the first run for Corendon Kinheim. In the fifth, Kinheim tied the game as Brian Engelhardt got on base and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jochem Koedijk. A wild pitch by Pirates’ pitcher Kyle Ward made Engelhardt advance to third. Kevin Moesquit finally drove him in on a single hit towards shortstop Michael Duursma. After Pirates took a one run lead again in the top of the sixth inning, Kinheim countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The gas was out of Pirates’ tank, but Kinheim managed to score three more runs. for the 7-3 win, thus avoiding a sweep.
Arshwin Asjes, normally the closer, pitched the final 3.1 innings for the win. He gave up three hits, walked four and struck out three. Dennis Burgerdijk would take the loss. In 0.2 innings he gave up two earned runs on three hits.
Best hitter for Kinheim was Jeffrey Arends, who went 2 for 3 with a walk, a strikout and two runs scored. Nick Urbanus collected the most hits for L&D Amsterdam Pirates as he went 4 for 5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
