Yankees and Dutchies in Spring Training, Wednesday March 25

Masahiro Tanaka was hit hard in yesterday’s game vs the Mets. In 4.2 innings he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits. But he struck out seven. His fastballs do not hit the high nineties that ofter so far. According to Tanaka that is because he is practicing on his two seamer and that does clock 90 MPH at most. Didi Gregorius played a good game hitting wise with a (ground rule) double out of two at bats. On a double by Chase Headley, Didi scored the first run for the Yankees. He also was the center piece of a 3-6-3 double play in the third inning when Johnny Monell grounded towards Mark Teixeira. Fox Sports published an article in which Didi’s team mates are praising him a lot.
On the side of the Mets, Matt den Dekker also hit an RBI ground rule double and scored a run. But Den Dekker also struck out once and left a runner on base. The final score? 7-2 Mets.

Absolutely worth mentioning was the double play started by Chase Headley in the sixth inning. Johnny Monell hit, what would have been a line drive if Headley had not caught it with a diving catch before firing it towards first base to bowl off Travis d’Arnaud from first base.

This was the only game in which Dutchies saw playing time.
