Didi Gregorius to the Yankees in a three-way trade
The New York Yankees have acquired Dutch shortstop Didi Gregorius in a three-way trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers. In this trade RHP Shane Greene will head to Detroit and LHP Robbie Ray will go to Arizona.
Mariekson “Didi” Gregorius was born in Amsterdam. His father also nicknamed Didi pitched for Amsterdam Pirates in the eighties. Gregorius was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent in 2007 and was part of a three-way deal before in 2012 in a deal which involved Cincinnati, Cleveland and Arizona.
In his short MLB career, Gregorius debuted with the Reds in 2012 and has played 183 games over the past two seasons with the D-backs, batting .241 with 13 homers, 55 RBIs and 82 runs in that span.
Last season he struggled a bit at the plate but near the end of the season his batting average was on the rise again.
This clip shows what he is capable of as a shortstop.
I am extremely pleased that my fellow countryman will join my favorite team.
Here is some opinion on Didi by Buster Olney and Harold Robins.
