U21 World Cup: Results of day four
Day four brought at least one surprise as the Czech Republic beat Italy 3-1. A one run third, fourth and fifth inning sealed Italy’s fate. Czech starter Marek Cervenka had a hell of an outing. He pitched a complete game in which he fanned eleven and allowed just one run on two hits. Cervenka gave up three walks. The Czechs outhit the Italians 7-2.
Mexico was no match for Korea, who needed just seven innings to clinch their third win of the tournament. Final score 10-0.
Korea outhit Mexico 14-5. DH Koo was the best hitter for Korea, goin 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
The Netherlands played their best game so far. They even took a 4-0 lead but ended at the wrong side of the score afterall. Final score 6-4 Nicaragua.
Australia flexed their muscles and needed seven innings to beat Venezuela 14-1. The Australians scored two runs in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and six in the sixth inning. Hitter with the most impact for Australia was leftfielder Adam Silva who went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI. He scored four runs himself.
New Zealand was on a roll in the last two games but met their match in Taiwan. A three run first, a one run third and a three run sixth sealed the fate of the Kiwis. Blair Johnstone took the loss for New Zealand. He worked 5.1 innnings and gave up all the runs that Korea scored. Korea;s Yang Jhih Long lasted seven innings and gave up just four hits for the win.
