Gianni Falchi Stadium (Fortitudo Bologna) Renovated or Reconstructed?
For years, the home field of Fortitudo Bologna baseball, Gianni Falchi Stadium is subject of talks about the renovation or reconstruction. Now it looks like this is about to happen in the near future.
Constructed in 1969, Stadio di baseball Gianni Falchi as it is officially called, is still hailed as a family friendly ballpark, with good sight lines and good food. But according to several sources, the lack of modern facilities is the reason that fans stay away. One can wonder if this is true. Just like in the Netherlands, the attention for baseball in Italy is declining with lesser fans in the stands as a result.

Some sources talk about a poor state of the ballpark, but in essence, its “poor state” isn’t necessarily about disrepair but more about its aging infrastructure and struggles to keep pace with modern demands, despite its cherished status in Italian baseball.
Strange enough, other sources talk about a state of disrepair with serious concerns about safety and usability, forcing Fortitudo to play several home games at nearby ballparks, which may be questionable as yours truly checked the 2025 schedule and no other ballparks than Gianni Falchi Stadium were scheduled as home ballpark for the club.
For quite some time, the city of Bologna is looking to upgrade many, if not all sports facilities, with the football stadium of Bologna as major point of interest. But also Gianni Falchi Stadium may get an upgrade or may be even restructured. A move to another part of Bologna is also a possibility.

On Youtube, there is a video as part of a study, how the ballpark may look like in the (near) future. This video is created by GBa Studio, which was chosen by Fortitudo Baseball Club 1953 as the designer for the complete restyling of the stadium and the surroundings of the historic Gianni Falchi facility in Piazzale Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.
The project currently under development will be presented in the coming months, representing an important intervention not only for the baseball club but also for the local community. The first step of this presentation is the following video:
If the ballpark is going to look like this, it will be a major improvement. The current Gianni Falchi Stadium has been created in a typical Italian ballpark style. Plenty of Italian ballparks look like the ballpark shown on the photo on top of this blog post.
To be continued…
