2025 Belgian Division One: April 13, Match of The Day

One of two matches today. Just like yesterday, Deurne Spartans was way too strong for Brasschaat Braves. Hoboken Pioneers and Borgerhout Squirrels were more like each other’s match. That is why the game between Hoboken and Borgerhout is again Match of The Day.

Hoboken Pioneers 7 – 3 Borgerhout Squirrels

In the fourth inning, with two outs, the Borgerhout Squirrels plated the first run.
Cedric Vandensompele doubled to right center field, followed by a double hit by Nick Vanthillo that drove in Vandensompele.

Borgerhout’s lead would last two innings. In the top of the seventh inning, Hoboken scored thrice thanks to a bases-loaded wild pitch that allowed Zion de Brauwer to score the game-thying run, a bases-loaded single by Wesley Janssens that drove in Edgardo Nieto Castillo, and another wild pitch that plated Dennis de Quint.

The Squirrels bounced back in the bottom of the seventh. Nils Imbert bunted over Sam Boermans and Harold Langezaal to put runners in scoring position. Sander De Saedeleer then doubled to left center field, to drive in the aforementioned runners.

An RBI single by Edgardo Nieto Castillo drove in the go-ahead run for Hoboken in the eighth inning, followed by two runs scored thanks to Xander Verspreet, who hit into a fielders choice that allowed Benjamin Goffaux and Edgardo Nieto Castillo to score.

The final score was reached in the ninth when, with the bases loaded, Benjamin Goffaux hit a sac fly that allowed Lucas Rizzi to score the final run.

Kevin Desmedt pitched a complete game for the win. In nine innings he gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks, as he struck out eight.
Glenn Mareels took the loss. He pitched 1.1 innings in relief and gave up six runs (three earned) on on three hits and two walks.

Average wise, Zion de Brauwer was the best hitter for Hoboken. He went 1 for 2 and walked and scored twice.
