Durham Lollygaggers Take The Field on June 16
Who doesn’t remember the movie Bull Durham, in which the manager called his players lollygaggers. Tomorrow, the Durham Bulls will honor the movie and take the field in special Lollygaggers uniforms.
In a desperate move, the head coach throws a bunch of bats into the showers to scare the hello out of them. Then he starts a tirade calling his players a bunch of lollygaggers. All this at the advice of Crash Davis: “Scare them.”
The jersey is a pull over jersey, as was a common thing in the days of Bull Durham. The cap is baby blue with a white front, sporting the regular Durham Bulls logo.
In 2019 the Bulls had a similar night, wearing a similar uniform in different colors. On that night, June 15, the Bulls routed the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders 16-3.
Here is an example of the 2019 edition:
It is not the only way the Bulls commemorate the movie. They earn a nice buck with the sale of t-shirts with the text Bunch of Lollygaggers.
This year’s jersey and cap are for sale as well in the Bull’s web shop.
Today, it is thirty-five years ago, the movie was released.
