Dutchies in the Major Leagues, Sunday September 28, 2014

Yesterday was the last day of the regular competition.

A couple of them didn’t get any playing time.

Roger Bernadina had a great day at bat. He went 2 for 2 after manager Don Mattingly let him enter the game in the fifth inning. Roger drove in four runs, three of them with a homerun.

Jonathan Schoop was responsible for the one and only (and winning) run of the Orioles. In the top of the fifth inning he hit a solo dinger that won the game for the birds from Baltimore.

Xander Bogaerts reluctantly sat out Derek Jeter’s final game. Jeter was Bogaerts’ idol, but due to a strained hamstring the Aruban shortstop wasn’t able to play. I tip my cap to the Red Sox the way they celebrated Jeter’s retirement. It was quite a show.

The Diamondbacks fell 1-0 to the Cards. Didi Gregorius went 0 for 3 and left two runners on base. Didi ended the season with a .226 batting average.

Andrelton Simmons sat out yesterday’s game on the bench. He ended the season with a .244 BA.

It was everything but a save situation, but Kenley Jansen appeared in the ninth inning anyway. He retired the side and struck out two.

Kenley Jansen: no save situation

The teams of Roger Bernadina and Kenley Jansen and Jonathan Schoop will advance to the playoffs. I am very curious if Roger Bernadina and Jonathan Schoop will make the cut of the playoff roster.
