De Glaskoning Twins announces new head coach

On the day head coach Kevin Knollenburg said goodbye as he could no longer combine managing a hoofdklasse team with his private life and work, the name of the head coach for the 2019 season was announced.

The Dutch Baseball Hangout was informed that Jeffrey Arends will be at the helm of De Glaskoning Twins next season. To many this may be a surprising choice as Arends lacks the experience. According to himself his only managerial experience managing a team that played a couple of practice games vs team Curaçao, that prepared itself for the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam.

Of course, Arends isn’t someone without any baseball knowledge. He played many years for Neptunus from Rotterdam, and seven years, he played at the flagship team of Neptunus in de Dutch hoofdklasse. Next to playing for Neptunus, Arends also played for Kinheim from Haarlem (2013-2015) and for De Glaskoning Twins (2016). After his year with Twins, Arends moved to Hoofddorp and finished his playing career there with a solid batting average of .357.

During the 2018 season, Arends functioned as hitting coach for De Glaskoning Twins.

Arends also has some international experience as he played with the Dutch national team, mainly in the World Port Tournaments and Haarlem Baseball Weeks. He never made the cut for the Dutch team to participate in European Championships.
