Dutch Hoofdklasse: L&D Amsterdam Pirates vs Vaessen Pioniers

Tonight the game that was rained out on Saturday, was played. Due to the split results, this appeared to be the rubber game of the three game series.

Dennis Burgersdijk took the mound for L&D Amsterdam Pirates and he was practically unhittable for the team from Hoofddorp. In eight innings he kept the Hoofddorp lineup in check, allowing only three hits.

His opponent, Nick Keur, pitched a good game as well, but he gave up two runs on five hits in five ininngs, walked one and fanned three.

Both teams did not score in the first two innings but L&D Amsterdam Pirates got on the board after Koen Nooij singled through the right side of the infield, advanced to second on a balk, stole third and scored on the throwing error by catcher Brian Raap, who attempted to throw out Nooij at third base.

One inning later, Gilmer Lampe drew a lead off walk and advanced to second on Remco Draijer’s bunt single. With two outs, Rashid Gerard singled to right center field to drive in Lampe for the second run of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, relief pitcher Jonatan Isenia hit Danny Rombley with a pitch, who promtly stole second base. A fielding error by Mervin Gario loaded the bases. Koen Nooij then singled to right field, so Danny Rombley and Kenny Berkenbosch could score two more runs.

Despite getting two rather quick outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, relief pitcher Jonah van Bemmelen could not get out of the inning. With Remco Draijer at third base, Linoy Croes was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners. After Croes stole second base, Max Clarijs singled up the middle to drive in Draijer and Croes.

Pioniers was outscored 7-0 but also outhit 10-3.

Dennis Burgersdijk earned the win after eight innings. He allowed three hits, walked one and fanned ten. Tom de Blok pitched a perfect ninth inning as he struck out two.
Nick Keur took the loss as his numbers described above show.

Best hitter for Pirates was Koen Nooij, who went 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Thanks to this win, L&D Amsterdam Pirates climbs in the standings to a shared second place with Curacao Neptunus and Kinheim. All three have won two out of three.
Vaessen Pioniers are tied for third place together with HCAW and De Glaskoning Twins.
