Tim Schaareman is having a helluva season

An often underexposed item is Dutch players playing at college level or community college level. One of those Dutch players who is playing at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), is having a very productive year so far. Tim Schaareman, the shortstop of the Park University Pirates, is making his presence felt.

The Honselersdijk native is setting a nice string of games with at least one base hit. So far it stands at 23 games. Next to that, his batting average stands at a whopping .439. In two of the last three games, a doubleheader vs Harris-Stowe State University, Schaareman went 3 for 6 with two doubles, two stolen bases, two runs scored and three walks drawn. Despite the good numbers of the leadoff hitter, The Pirates fell to Harris-Stowe University in both games (7-4 and 4-2). In the last game his team played, on Sunday March 4, Tim went 2 for 7 with a run scored.

The 22-year old earned some hardware last year as he was selected for the Gold Glove Team of the American Midwest Conference. With a batting average of .329 and a fielding percentage of .937 (fourteen errors), Schaareman was a big contributor for his team.

Next to the whopping .439 of this season, the shortstop has committed five errors in eleven games so far, slightly worse than the previous season (so far) but he still has 37 games left to improve that. So far Tim has hit three doubles, a triple and he drove in six runs, not bad for a leadoff hitter.

2018 will be his final year at Park University, which is located in Parkville Missouri.
