“All Rise” named AL Rookie Of The Year

Tonight the 2017 Rookie Of The Year award was unanimously given to Aaron Judge. The 25-year old right fielder of the New York Yankees beat Andrew Benintendi of the Boston Red Sox and Trey Mancini of the Baltimore Orioles.
After Judge struggled during his first steps in the Majors in 2016, he made some adjustments and soared through the 2017 season. Where Aaron hit a subpar .179 in 27 games and 84 at-bats in 2016, he improved to .284 in the 2017 campaign.
Next to hitting 24 doubles and 3 triples, Aaron set an MLB record for most home runs hit by a rookie with 52 dingers and set another MLB record with drawing 127 walks, surpassing Ted Williams. With the home run record, Judge improved Mark McGwire’s record of 49 home runs that stood for three decades.

2017 was a fantastic year for Aaron as he earned his first All-Star Game appearance. He also won the home run derby. Next to winning the ROY Award, Aaron won his first Silver Slugger award and is still nominated for the 2017 MVP Award.
Aaron Judge is the first Yankee since Derek Jeter, who was named ROY in 1996, and the ninth Yankee overall to garner the honor.
