Dodgers are eyeing Aruba as their future Caribbean Baseball camp
Just like Curaco, Aruba is in the picture to become a home for an MLB organization.
As a result of the political and social unrest in Venezuela, Curacao was targeted aldready to become a location for a new Summer League with a new (to be built) complex as home. But now the Dodgers are also looking to create a baseball academy in the Caribbean area, and it seems that they are eyeing Aruba instead of Venezuela.
The intention is there and there have been talks with the Aruban minister of sports Alex Schwengle. The latter is backing the plans but no deal has been signed yet.
One of the demands that the island of Aruba has is that several local players will get a chance to play for the local Dodgers’ “farm” team.
The Dodgers want to run a baseball camp to attrackt players from the area and to train/educate them to become good ball players. In fact something similar like they are doing now in the Dominican Republic. Apparently the Dodgers see that there is very much talent at the Dutch Caribbean islands, so establishing a baseball school in the area seems to be a logical step.
According to Aruban news website noticiacla.com this would be an enormous boost for Aruban baseball and for the local economy. Like mentioned above, no contracts have been signed yet and even if the contract has been signed, it may take a while before all permissions are given.
One doesn’t need to be a big expert to understand that if Aruba and the Dodgers can agree on a deal, more players from the Caribbean island will follow Xander Bogaerts’ footsteps in the future.
