Dutch Hoofdklasse 2016: Play offs, August 21
In the Hoofdklasse play offs and runner up competition all games but one was rained out.
The only game that went on was the one between Vaessen Pioniers and Curacao Neptunus. After losing two games Neptunus avoided being swept by winning the last game with big numbers.
Curacao Neptunus 10 – 5 Vaessen Pioniers
After Curacao Neptunus took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Vaessen Pioniers scored a run
in each of the next two innings to tie the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Mervin Gario got on base thanks to a single through the left side, followed by a single by Brian Raap and a walk drawn by Quentin de Cuba. When Kevin Dirksen grounded into a 5-4 force out, Mervin Gario scored the go-ahead run.
But Pioniers could not cling on to their lead as Neptunus had two three run innings in the seventh and the eighth inning.
Pioniers’ Nick Keur started the seventh inning with giving up three consecutive runs before Dwayne Kemp grounded out to second base and drove in Daniel Fernandes. Raily Legito singled up the middle to drive in Shaldimar Daantji and Urving Kemp.
A homerun hit by Brennan Nijhof and a single followed by a double drove in three more runs for Pioniers but from there the gas was out of the tank. Neptunus would score two more in the ninth to reach the double digits.
Kenny van den Branden earned the win by pitching six innings in which he gave up three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out six.
Despite pitching six solid innings, Nick Keur took the loss when he gave up three consecutive walks that gave Neptunus the lead.
Best hitter for Curacao Neptunus was Dashenko Ricardo, who went 2 for 3 with two homeruns, four RBI and two runs scored.
The rained out games will be played later this week.
