Yankees and Dutchies in Spring Training, Wednesday March 18

The Braves were no match for the Yankees last night. Mike Foltynewicz got through two innings without problems but could not get out of the third inning. He gave up a bloop broken bat single to Didi Gregorius in the third before he retired Jose Pirela and Brett Gardner on strike outs. Chase Headley broke the game open with a single to center field that drove in Didi Gregorius. Stephen Drew hit his first homerun of the Spring Training and took Garrett Jones with him in the top of the fourth inning. Eventually the Yankees beat the Braves 12-5. Gregorius went 3 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Brian McCan went 2 for 2 with a homerun, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
Masahiro Tanaka pitched 3.2 innings in which he allowed only two hits and struck out three.
Andrelton Simmons went 1 for 3 with a strike out and a runner left on base for Atlanta.

In a 3-2 over the Twins, Jonathan Schoop went 1 for 3. But that only hit was a two run dinger in the top of the second inning. Jonathan also returned to the dugout with a K. On the defensive side he made two 4-3 outs.

Another 3-2 loss for Minnesota as their other split squad team was beaten by Boston. Xander Bogaerts went 0 for 2 with a strikeout.

Jair Jurrjens entered the game vs the Padres in the fourth inning. He cruised throug the remainder of the fourth and through the fifth but allowed a run on two hits in the sixth that earned him a blown save. Despite giving up this run, he fanned three.
