Belgian Transactions For 2025: Phoenix Mont-Saint-Guibert

It’s that time of the year again to pay attention to the transaction in the Belgian Division 1. This time we pay attention to Phoenix Mont-Saint-Guibert, that lost a lot of players.

Phoenix lost many players. Andrew Cromwell (US import), Geoffrey Haesaert , and Tristan Smetz hang up their cleats. Clement Noblet is halting baseball because of school. Prospect Emeric Clickart is headed back closer to home with the Namur Angels. Jean-François Rittweger already left before the end of the season to Braine Black Rickers. SS/C Noah Dassy isn’t expected to play many games as he will only be available between his prep school season and college season (late May to mid August) David Nuñez, going to our D2 to be some kind of mentor to Phoenix’ young guys along with newcomer (returnee) Alejandro Limonta Padilla.

According to Christophe Dassy, the Division 2 team is really tight with its Division 1 team. Both teams train together under the same coaching staff. Both teams have mostly young players 15 to 20 years old who are mentored by a few more experienced players. It makes the transition and comfort moving with Division 1 easier when the opportunities arise.

When it comes to additions to the flatship team, nothing more is to mention than the aforementioned Alejandro Limonta Padilla. There is one bright spot; super utility player Chad Herrera (US import) is coming back.

The departure of the many players leaves a void of around 250 at-bats and 30 innings pitched (both starters as relievers). But then again, many of the players that leave the club didn’t play that many games due to injuries or disappointing performances. Others left the club already halfway the 2024 season.

Likely the club will look for an import arm but next to that, several young players that had a cup of coffee in Division 1 in 2024 may get a bigger role in 2025.

Christophe Dassy states that the club will have two goals for the upcoming season: the first is to compete for a spot in the new play off system, and to try to fit in some youth players into the Division 1 team.

A big thank you goes out to head coach Christophe Dassy, who made it possible to write the blog post.
