Dohren Wild Farmers Opts For Demotion From German 1. Bundesliga

Wednesday, a new map of the 2025 German 1. (first) Bundesliga was shown on Instagram and what caught the eye was that the Dohren Wild Farmers were not mentioned on it. So yours truly contacted the club for more information.

After a very tough season, in which the club only won a handful of games, the board of the club has decided to step back from the First Bundesliga, even though the club did not relegate. According to press spokeswoman Kirsten Dallmann, the club needs to build a new framing with more home grown talent.

On Thursday night, the board of the club informed the club members. Most of them, if not all, agreed with the decision.

The club cannot and does not want to play with eight hired guns from abroad, so the board opted for a voluntary demotion. Long it was not clear where the club would play, but according to a press release, the Wild Farmers will play in the 2. Bundesliga in 2025.

IMHO, Partially, the club has gotten in this situation because its “neighbour” Hamburg Stealers “stole” several talented players from the club through the recent years. At one point you cannot fill those voids with home grown talent anymore.

It is a shame that this club is lost for the highest level of German baseball for now. This club has created its own baseball diamond and has produced many talented players. To rebuild the flagship team will take time, but at least the club still exists.

As a result of the demotion, the Hünstetten Storm, that lost the relegation series against the Gauting Indians, will stay in the 1. Bundesliga. But instead of playing in the Southern Division, the club will play in the North Division. In the past season, the North Division only had five teams and the Storm will fill the void that is left by the Dohren Wild Farmers.
