Regensburg Legionäre @ Cologne Cardinals, a Photo Impression

Today, yours truly went to Cologne in Germany to watch a quarter final game of the German 1. Baseball Bundesliga between the Cologne Cardinals and the Regensburg Legionäre. The weather was good, the burgers and the prezels delicious. So a good day for a ballgame.

A game started as an exciting pitching duel between Florian Kawczynski (Cologne Cardinals) and Noah Zavolas, eventually fizzled out.
Engagement – Guggenberger
Until the seventh inning the game was very close. Regensburg took a 1-0 in the fourth inning. With two outs Antonios Torres Skerrett drew a walk, followed a single by Marlon Jimenez Ramos. Nino Sacasa Petzsch eventually singled home Torres Skerett for the opening run.
But the Cards didn’t need long to turn the tables. With the bases loaded, a double and a groundout drove in two runs to hand Cologne the lead.

But that lead would not last long. In the fifth inning, Lou Martin Helmig singled home Edoardo Cornelli from third to tie the game.

After a scoreless sixth, Cologne’s starting pitcher, started to show some signs of fatigue, as he started to lack control. A bases-loaded walk gave the Legionäre the lead and they never looked back. The reliever that took over, could not stop the Regensburg offense. With him on the mound, the Legionäre scored two more runs to reach the final score 5-2.

Pablo Luis Guillén Diaz earned the win. In 4.2 innings of relief he gave up two hits and fanned five. Florian Kawczynski took the loss. In 6.1 innings, he gave up five runs on eight hits and six walks and struck out two.
