Rome Braves Opt For Own Identity
The Rome Braves are the High-A farm team of the Atlanta Braves. For more than twenty years, the club is linked to and named after the parent club in Atlanta. But 2023 will be the last one. From 2024, the club will operate under a new name.
Several players have donned the jersey of Rome: Jeff Francoer and Ronald Acuńa, just to name two. But from 2024, no player will wear a jersey that sports the name Braves. The club wants to adopt a name that has ties with the area. “We want to create an identity that fans across the region can proudly claim and call their own” according to the club’s Facebook account.
“As we look into the future, we recognize the importance of a team name that resonates with our diverse fan base and embodies the spirit of Rome. We believe that the power of our community lies in its unity and shared values, and we want our team’s name to reflect these ideals.”
As a result of this decision, fans can send in new names for the club, starting on August 11. Names can be submitted through August 18. The club didn’t mention what happens after August 18, whether a name will be picked by the club or if the fans can pick a name out of five or six names (for example).
