On day three, all four games were played. The most interesting (IMO) was the matchup between Amsterdam Pirates and DSS/Kinheim.
Amsterdam Pirates 7 – 6 DSS/Kinheim
In another matchup between two young teams, Amsterdam Pirates just needed one big inning to clinch the victory. After DSS/Kinheim had opened the score in the bottom of the first inning, when Nick Hofer led off with a double and scored on a fielding error by the shortstop of Amsterdam Pirates, the six-time Dutch champion jumped on Donnie Breek and reliever Bas Timmer. With no outs and the bases loaded, Tieme Nahuis was hit by a pitch and allowed Roelie Henrique to score the game-tying run. For manager Meijer to pull Breek in favor of Bas Timmer. But the move did not pan out well as the latter wasn’t able to stop the offense of Pirates. The first batter Timmer faced, Luca van Gorkum, doubled down the right field line to drive in Duco Nuijten en Jorrit Penseel. A wild pitch allowed Tieme Nahuis to score and Luca van Gorkum to move on to third base, and another wild pitch made him touch home plate. The seventh and final run was scored by Jason Jakobus on Denzel Richardson’s double down the left field line. That run scored by Jason Jakobus appeared to be the insurance run. Matthijs Oosterbeek, who replaced Bas Timmer with two outs in the second inning, kept Pirates on a leash for 5.2 innings as he gave up only four hits and struck out four.
Starting in the bottom of the third inning, DSS/Kinheim inched closer. Urving Kemp led off the third inning with a double down the left field line, followed by a single by Sem Kuijper and a sac fly by Koen Halderman to drive in Kemp for DSS/Kinheim’s second run of the game. Donny Kuijper then doubled to left center field to drive in Sem Kuijper.
In the fourth inning, Nick Hofer dropped a leadoff bunt single and scored on Julian Toppen’s double down the right field line.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, DSS/Kinheim scored twice when Urving Kemp singled to center field and Julian Toppen could score on an error by the right fielder of Amsterdam Pirates. A single by Sem Kuijper drove in Urving Kemp from second base.
Besides these runs, DSS/Kinheim had some opportunities to add more runs to their score, but the team failed to cash in.
Michael Bennet earned the win for Amsterdam Pirates. He pitched the final four innings, starting in the sixth by replacing Maickel Rietel, and limited DSS/Kinheim to only one hit and struck out five. Donny Breek took the loss for DSS/Kinheim. In one inning and five hitters faced in the second, he allowed five earned runs on one hit and three walks as he struck out one.
The best hitter for Amsterdam Pirates was Denzel Richardson, who went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
