Through his instagram account, Gilmer Lampe announced his retirement from top baseball. In a personal message Gilmer wrote: “I don’t think it is a goodbye but it feels more like a “see you later” type of situation. But for now Gilmer’s out.”
In the past season, Lampe made a move from L&D Amsterdam Pirates to HCAW, but never played for the club from Bussum as he returned to Fortitudo Bologna of the Italian Serie A with whom he clinched a European ticket by winning the Coppa Italia (Italian Cup).
Born in Noord, Aruba, Lampe broke into the Dutch hoofdklasse with UVV from Utrecht in 2014. After two years with that club, he headed to the Dutch capital city, to join L&D Amsterdam Pirates, where he played two seasons. In 2018, he joined Fortitudo Bologna with which he won the Italian championship. After one year in Italy, he returned to Pirates and played there through the 2021 season, winning two Dutch championships.
Gilmer posted a career batting average of .336 during his years in the Dutch hoofdklasse.
In his farewell message Gilmer wrote the following:
First off I want to thank God for blessing me with everything I have in this world. I want to thank my wife @eugeniedavelaar and my family who supported me throughout my career. It wasn’t easy❤️. I want to thank my teammates and coaches who’ve helped me grow, learn and they became like family. To the fans who never lost fate in me💯. To @yayabaseball for supporting me with really high quality bats these last few years🙌🏽
