Antwerp Eagles Withdraws From Belgian Division 1

This was supposed to become another episode of “Transactions in Belgian Baseball For The 2022 Season,” but unfortunately, this blog post is the bearer of bad news.

It all started with head coach Tom Heuten. He was no longer able to combine his job with managing the first-division team. So the Antwerp Eagles started a search for a new head coach. But after an extensive search, the club had to return to the players empty-handed. As a result, the Division 1 team saw many players look for greener pastures elsewhere. For example, the four players that were mentioned in the blog post about the transactions of the Mortsel Stars.

According to Nick Van den Bosch, the club is working hard on a comeback. But that will take a couple of years. For now, the club is focusing on the things it does have: a flourishing ladies softball team, a pack of talented youth players, and a solid foundation in the fourth division of Belgian baseball.

It is sad that this happens to the club, a year before its centinary.

The Eagles would like to seize the opportunity for an appeal. Do you want to dedicate yourself to cooperating with and expanding the oldest baseball club of Belgium? Then leave a message at voorzitter@antwerpeagles.com. Your help is welcome and appreciated.
