2026 Belgian Division One: Match of The Day (April 25)

As yours truly is always looking for attractive games or close scores, he chose the game between the hosting Brussels Kangaroos and the Namur Angels.

Namur Angels 7 – 14 Brussels Kangaroos

Likely you will say “7-14 isn’t a close game.” But despite the final result, the game was much closer than you think.

Until the eighth inning, it was a close game and most of all a see-saw game. The Brussels Kangaroos took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Jhoanderson Freitez led of the inning with a single up the middle. Freitez stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jayde Thorne followed with a single to the shortstop that drove in Freitez for the opening run.

But Brussel’s lead would not last long. In the top of the fourth inning, the Angels struck back hard. Arthur Heymans drew a leadoff walk and scored all the way from first on a single by Lucas Heymans. Normally one doesn’t score from first on a single, but thanks the an error by the left fielder, Arthur could make a mad dash to home plate. With runners in scoring position, Nathan Croon homered to right field to give the Angels a 4-1 lead.

After scoring a run in the fifth inning, Brussels took a one-run lead in the sixth. With no outs, Tyler Smith gave up three consecutive walks. When Luis Manuel Veras Luciano hit toward third base, he reached base on a fielders choice. An error by the third baseman, allowed Ken Spurgeon to score. That was enough for Smith to be replaced by Arthur Heymans. The latter retired the first batter he faced before he gave up a two-run double to Guillaume Henrotte, followed by a single by Lucas Weyers that drove in another run. A passed ball allowed Guillaume Henrotte to score Brussel’s fifth run.

In the top of the seventh, Namur tied the game once more when Nathan Croon singled through the right side to drive in Lucas Heymans.

The Kangaroos took a decisive lead in the bottom of the seventh when Luis Manuel Veras Luciano drove in two runs and Lucas Weyers drove in one. In the bottom of the eighth, Brussel added four more runs to its total.

So as you can read, the final score was rather flattering as the game was much closer than the final score tells us.

Cedric Desmedt earned the win. In 3.2 innings, he only gave up an unearned run on one hit. Cedric struck out two.

Arthur Heymans took the loss, after giving up nine runs (four earned) on ten hits and a walk as he struck out two.

Best hitter for the Brussels Kangaroos was Lucas Weyers, who went 4 for 4 with two RBI.
