Belgian Division One: Makeup Game no. Two Between Brasschaat and Deurne

Normally, series are played like doubleheaders on one day. But in this case, the teams opted to play on two separate days. After a hard fought victory in yesterday’s game, the Braves won again today, and much easier this time.

A little bit later than normal, as yours truly had to call a game in the BB2 between Brasschaat Braves and Beveren Lions. The game ended around 20.00 (8.00 PM), so this report is on the late side.

Deurne Spartans  1  –  8  Brasschaat Braves
DEU flagIn a very lopsided game, the Braves failed to finish the job in seven innings. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the team had runners in scoring position with only one out,  but the next two batters were retired by Edgardo Jose Nieto Castillo.
Eli Straw, gave the Braves a 2-0 lead in the first inning when he homered with Jamie Verheyeleweghen at second base. Thanks to a single by Robin Roevens in the third and a wild pitch in the fourth inning, the Braves extended their lead with two runs.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth inning, Jamie Verheyleweghen hit into a 6-3 double play but drove in Jasper van Velthoven. Robin Roevens hit into a force out in the eighth inning that allowed Senne Janssens to score. A throwing error by the pitcher on a “hit” of Lino Ballardini, allowed Robin Roevens to score the eighth run for the Braves.
All the Deurne Spartans could do in return was scoring a run in the ninth. With runners on the corners, Frank Alejandro Prieto Burgos singled to center field to drive in Edgardo Jose Nieto Castillo for the sole run of the Spartans.
Of the eight runs the Braves scored, three were unearned as the Spartans committed three errors. Artuur Driessens earned the win as he pitched a complete game in which he limited the Spartans to one run on nine hits and struck out four. Matthew de Permentier took the loss. In 5.2 innings, he gave up six runs (four earned) on eleven hits and three walks as heBRA flag struck out three.
Jasper van Velthoven was the best hitter for the Braves. He went 3 for 4 with two runs scored.
